Overview

The problem
Health apps scatter everything — calories in one tab, steps in another, sleep somewhere else — then grade the day like an exam. So you open the app dreading the verdict, and quit at the first slip.
The craft
The stance is a balance, not a score. Five gauges of light on a green night: what’s held glows, what’s left is said plainly — « 630 kcal for a real dinner, 18 minutes of walking ». Amber marks the one goal still open, never a failure. Designed mobile-first (the pocket screen IS the app), the web as its evening companion. Glow built from gradients and baked shadows — transform and opacity only, no animated filters.

In detail

The intent

Take mobile’s most saturated category — health tracking — and chase what’s missing everywhere: legible kindness. The point is not finer counting, but a simpler evening.

A balance, not a score

The evening question isn’t “was I good” but “what’s left”. The screen answers with one number — the calories left for a real dinner — and five gauges that say the rest at a glance. When everything holds, everything glows; when a goal is open it turns amber, no red, no alarm.

Merging calories and goals

Counting calories and holding daily goals are the same gesture: laying something down every day. Merging them removes two apps, two entries, two reminders — and lets the dinner suggestion know both the calorie balance and that protein is already covered.

Mobile-first, genuinely

The app lives in a pocket; the mockup is designed at 390 px first, the web as the evening journal. The glow is gradients and baked shadows — transform and opacity only, 60 fps held even on a four-year-old phone.

Scope

In development. The data shown is fictional — a ground to show how Burin approaches a consumer mobile app.
